World of Primitive Odyssey

World of Primitive Odyssey

For the past year, we’ve been quietly immersed in the world of Primitive Odyssey—a prehistoric adventure where nature and mythology collide. 🌿 Our goal is to blend stylized aesthetics with hardcore survival realism. We’re thrilled to share a glimpse of our journey through these visual milestones.

2022_JULY In our first concept work, we embraced strict design rules—only cubes, no smooth surfaces. Characters and vegetation got a rough look. Extended rules for a bit more complexity.

2022_JULY Extended the design rule here a bit, Still rough edges but using more complex geometry. Also using Tilt-shift photography here to make everything look smaller.

2022_JULY: Testing different biomes, (oasis), refining trees and lakes. Tried stylized caves with boxes—didn’t quite work. Experimenting with different character assets

2022_AUGUST: Procedural snow exploration was exciting! Voronoi break patterns and ice shaders were fascinating in Houdini. But, transferring to Unreal proved resource-intensive. Lessons learned.

2022_NOVEMBER: Early Unreal Engine tests using Houdini engine for asset linking. Voronoi pattern on the ground helped for biome transitions . Issues arose with level of detail on different objects.

2023_MAY: Focused mostly on introducing core game mechanics and improved athospherics and shaders. The world is taking shape.

2023_SEPTEMBER: Increasing detail on vegetation for uniformity. Switched to UE5, improved volumetrics and shaders. Weather conditions now impact scene shaders. Player character got additional detail. Exciting times!
